ACTIVE INGREDIENT | Turmeric May 31 2016 by Holistic Aesthetician

Turmeric is a very strong antioxidant + anti-inflammatory that has been used in traditional Ayurvedic + Chinese medicine throughout history. It is considered a herb that cleanses the whole body, especially the liver. It is used to support digestion, treat fever, infections and inflammations.

The active ingredient in turmeric (curcumin) has been proven to have comparable healing effects as potent anti-inflammatory prescription medicine, like hydrocortisone, thus making turmeric a healthy alternative to toxic drugs. Turmeric should be consumed with black pepper for optimal benefits; the black pepper enhances the bioavailability of curcumin by a thousand times! It's great to add a healthy fat to turmeric and heat it up to enhance nutrition as well. Turmeric has a slight bitter taste but blends very well with other flavours.

Topically turmeric is anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, and antibacterial. It is a great ingredient for treating eczema and dermatitis. It also works to soften skin, restoring the skin’s natural glow.  It's very effective in reducing any kind of bacterial infection, calming redness and soothing irritations.
