DIY Soothing After-Sun Face Mist
Now that it's August, we've hopefully all had some time to get a healthy dose of sunshine (and Vitamin D) into our lives again. As much as we love getting outside and enjoying those beautiful warm rays, we all know that sunburns can happen! Even when we think we've protected our skin enough or think that we were only going to be in the sun for an hour until you get distracted, or fall asleep on your beach chair and end up with red-as-a-lobster skin. In addition to your pre-sun protection, such as an all-natural sunscreen, we also believe it's so important to have a post-sun routine as well, to help keep your skin moist and glowing.
A great way to provide your skin with some relief and extra hydration after some well deserved sunshine is by making your own soothing face-mist. We found this super simple recipe by Beauty Is Wellness:
Green Tea & Chamomile After Sun Mist
Green tea helps repair sun damage and soothe redness after a day at the beach. Store this antioxidant-rich, calming mist in the fridge and spray it generously over clean skin after sun exposure.
1 green tea bag
1 chamomile tea bag
1/4 cup witch hazel
essential oils of your choice
glass spray bottle
Steep green tea bag in 1/2 cup hot water, and steep chamomile tea bag in 1/4 cup boiling water, about 20 minutes. Remove tea bags and allow tea to cool to room temperature. In a small bowl, mix teas and witch hazel. Add 5 drops desired essential oils (try rose geranium for mature skin, or sandalwood, for acne-prone skin) to liquid mixture. Use a funnel to pour the liquid into your spray bottle. Shake well before each use. Keeps 2 to 3 weeks in the refrigerator.
