Seasonal Transitions | Our top 3 Summer skincare tips!
Toronto's summer heatwaves can make it hard to maintain a glowing complexion. Armed with these 3 summer skincare tips you can feel confident in adapting your skincare routine to reflect the seasonal changes.
I carry our Invigorating + Balancing Toner with me and spritz my skin throughout the hot summer days. This blend of rose + lavender water calms, hydrates and cools my sensitive skin. The essential oils of geranium + clary sage disinfect while cleansing away excess oil + dirt. If I feel oily, I like to spritz my face with a few pumps of toner then wipe it clean with a cotton pad. Otherwise, I simply spritz my face with toner and let it absorb while cooling the skin + reducing redness. This toner aids in hydrating the surfaces layers of skin - which is important in preventing sun burns! It's also a great anti-inflammatory agent, useful for all skin types + concerns.
Weekly face masks are a great way to detoxify and reset your skin. Our Detoxifying + Clarifying Clay Mask contains 4 different types of clay + maple syrup + algae to rid your skin of oil buildup, smooth the surface texture and provide an effective deep cleansing treatment. I prefer cleansing my skin, toning, exfoliating and then following with a face mask - which I like to leave on the skin for 10-20 minutes. If you have dehydrated/flaky skin, apply a thin layer of face serum prior to applying a clay mask. This ensures that your skin will stay hydrated, and removal of the clay mask won't be irritating. After all your mask is removed, apply a face serum and gently massage it in for optimal results. Your skin should feel clean + renewed, but not dry or tight! Take a look at our previous post on Customizing your Clay Mask here. If clay isn't your thing, try our DIY Fresh Fruit Mask!
I always make sure to wear adequate amounts of SPF - even though I generally dislike the feeling of it on my skin. It's important to shield ourselves from the harsh effects of prolonged sun exposure. We have more information on protecting your skin from sun exposure naturally here. Whenever possible, I remove my SPF from my face by either oil cleansing, or wiping my face with a cotton pad soaked in water or toner. I always reapply my SPF whenever necessary, but if I can remove the previous application before reapplying, I always feel a bit smoother and cleaner. If you are unable to remove excess SPF throughout your day, feel free to gently exfoliate once you get home and you'll find your skin feels clean and soft - regardless of the pounds of SPF you may have liberally applied! Our Regenerating + Stimulating Exfoliator is an effective yet gentle way to scrub away accumulative dirt, oil and excess product from the skin. Always follow exfoliation with a face serum or lotion to maintain ample moisture levels and prevent dehydration.
