Many of our clients tell us that dry brushing is the favourite step in their skincare routines. And for good reason! It is believed to have so many benefits including:
Stimulating the lymphatic system
Increasing circulation + energy and stimulating the nervous system.
Elimination of dead skin and reducing the appearance of fine lines, dullness, puffiness, dark circles and more.
Plus, it feels so good!
For those of you who aren’t familiar with the technique, it involves daily face and/or body massage with a dry, bristled brush in a particular pattern. The idea is that the fibres will help remove dead skin + improve the skin’s ability to eliminate toxins by stimulating the lymphatic system.
In this post, we’re diving deep into some of the advanced dry brushing techniques and how they help your skin. Your skin is an organ of elimination and you need to make sure that your lymphatic system is flowing well in order to rid your body of toxic build-up - more flow more glow!
Our underarm area contains as many as 40 lymph nodes, which work to drain excess toxins. You can speed up this natural detoxification process by running a dry brush over the skin.
This move aids Thymus stimulation and helps opens up the auxiliary lymph nodes, the largest nodes in our upper body. It opens up the heart and lung meridian and encourages lymphatic drainage around these vital organs. It is also believed to support breast health.
Collarbone + Front of the Neck Movement
This move stimulates the thyroid gland and awakens the throat, which supports the thyroid and its many functions like metabolism, energy production etc. It also stimulates the connecting points + glands between the neck and face.
Jowls and Jawline Movement
This move can help lift + draw along the jawline, which can help release toxins and heal hormonal breakouts + congestion during the menstrual cycle. It also supports the throat chakra.
Neck and Sinuses Movement
This move supports the cervical lymph node, which is directly connected to the upper sinuses so this move is great for anyone with seasonal allergies.
Sinus Drainage (ctnd.)
This move helps drain the upper and lower sinuses. It can help alleviate seasonal allergy symptoms like congestion and stuffy nose.
Eye Area
Dryness and dead skin layer-up are often the causes of dullness and milia in this area. This move can help reduce the appearance of dark circles, puffiness, and tired eyes by eliminating the dry skin around your eyes.
Targeting Blemishes and Breakouts
Blemishes can be a signal of stagnation in the lymphatic system. Use this move to work your dry brush underneath and around the blemishes to prevent further irritation. Focus on this move 3-4 days before your cycle to try and alleviate hormonal congestion/inflammation.
Dry Brushing best practices:
For best results, dry brush in the morning (helps reduce facial puffiness + awakens the lymphatic system after sleep)
Always use light pressure + purposeful flicking movement
Slow movements are the best
Drink 1 glasses of water before and after the practice to encourage the flow
Please note: It is really important to treat your skin mindfully after dry brushing. We recommend incorporating an oil cleanser, toner, serum + moisturizer into your routine to treat dryness.
