Celebrating the Women We Admire

In honour of International Women’s Day, we are looking back on all the incredible powerhouse women we’ve featured in our ongoing
Women We Admire series. To celebrate, we’ve curated a list of 12 pieces of advice from what these women-in-business have learned on their individual journeys. We hope that you can cultivate some motivation, share this with someone that might need a push, or be inspired to appreciate the incredible women in your life.

Let us know which piece of wisdom helped you the most in the comments below and if you know someone you think we should feature send us a nomination directly!

Discover Your Strengths by Embracing Your Weaknesses

“All of your differences and things that people point out as your weaknesses are actually your strengths. You should use them to carve out who you are, and carve out your own unique purpose because those are the things you were given for a reason.”

Challenge Yourself to Always Believe in Yourself

“[In my previous career] often times I was the first and only female to have certain roles and do certain jobs. Every single time I would be put into a new role that was a female first, I would be told that it was foolish and that I likely wouldn’t be able to do it. My response was always ‘watch me’ and I would go on to do whatever it was that I was told I couldn’t. I promise you that if you put your mind to it and don’t take ‘no’ for an answer, you can achieve anything you want to.”

Your Passion is Your True North

“Slow down and consider what you are truly, eagerly passionate about. What cause keeps you up at night? What kind of changes do you wish to see for our future? If we all launched businesses from our hearts, with the intention of spreading love and consciousness, then we could see the changes our future desperately needs. Plus, this type of business, figuring out your life’s work, fosters a fulfilment that is ineffable.”

Commit To Your Business

“Invest in your business through labour, money, marketing – whatever you feel is necessary at the time. Be real about the hard costs of running a business and how much money you need to make just to cover those… If you have a side gig, know that eventually, you will probably have to choose one over the other. Some people wait until their business is making enough money before they commit to it full-time, but that time might not come until you are in it 100%.”

Know How to Recharge

“The ingredients for [my] perfect day off involve some aspect of self care, caring for others, and rest. I have to say that I love indulging in a bit of TV – the good stuff, like a few episodes of Grey’s Anatomy or Project Runway. TV plus couch plus blanket plus dog equals GOOD.”

Nourish Yourself

“I recommend eating a whole-foods, plant-based diet, free-from preservatives and other chemicals. My food philosophy is that you are what you eat, so I prefer to eat mostly raw, unprocessed foods and vegetables, as well as whole-grains, nuts, seeds and legumes. I eat organic and local foods as much as possible and always 100% vegan.”
