We now offer Naturopathic Consultations with Dr. Nastasia Irons!
We are so excited to announce that we offer Naturopathic Consultations with Dr. Irons! Nastasia has been offering Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture at our skincare clinic since the spring, and while this treatment is rooted in naturopathy, we are pleased to expand her services to include Naturopathic Consultations.
At the Province Apothecary skincare clinic we believe that beautiful skin is deeply connected with your internal health. Being able to offer naturopathic medicine as a compliment to our organic facials has been a goal of ours for a long time, and we believe it is a vital part of your skincare journey.
Nastasia Irons graduated from Brock University with a BA (hons) in Child Health. Following this, she moved to Toronto and completed a 4 year Doctorate and 2 year Residency program at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine. Nastasia Irons is a board certified and licensed Naturopathic Doctor. During her Residency she received extra training in facial acupuncture techniques, and currently teaches acupuncture to third year students once a week at the college.
What is a Naturopath?
A Naturopathic Doctor is a licensed healthcare provider that can treat, support, and diagnose various health concerns. The focus is on understanding a patient’s health from a holistic perspective - addressing the root cause of disease, building the relationship between mind, body, and spirit, and working together to improve well-being.
With the use of herbal medicine, acupuncture, lifestyle counselling, and nutritional supplements, we teach our body how to respond to illness, and prevent it from happening in the future.
Why should you go to a naturopath?
You should go to a Naturopath if you have questions regarding your health or if you have specific healthcare goals that you would like to work on from a natural perspective. A Naturopath is trained to understand and order lab work and can work with other healthcare practitioners to help you understand your body, and feel better.
At Province Apothecary, we offer various tests including food allergy testing and functional tests such as the DUTCH test for hormonal metabolism and OAT test for assessing mitochondrial function. In the near future we will be offering vitamin injections.
Why is acupuncture part of your treatment plan?
I love to do acupuncture with my patients because it can be extremely relaxing. In addition to this, it provides a way for me to address someone’s symptoms from a totally different perspective than western medicine. Herbs and supplements work similarly to pharmaceuticals, except they are natural. Acupuncture is a form of Eastern medicine that doesn’t rely on traditional forms of diagnosis in order to address a person’s symptoms and condition - which can be helpful when a patient comes in with a lot of concerns and haven’t seen improvements from medication or other forms of treatment.
How is a Facial Acupuncture appointment different than a Naturopath Consultation?
A facial acupuncture appointment is focused on skin goals and health goals as they pertain to your skin. If you want to work on other parts of your health - and have a more in depth nutritional/medical appointment - then we want to do a consultation so that we have more time for the initial visit, and then more flexibility in the appointments for follow ups. There can often be a body acupuncture treatment during the consult - but it won’t be as many needles! For example - at Province Apothecary, I treat health concerns such as low thyroid function, allergies, fertility support, digestive problems and mood support - like reducing anxiety and depression.
How often should you see a Naturopath
This really depends on your health care needs and goals - I have patients who come in weekly for a few weeks to get their health on track with diet and counselling. Others will come in for a consult, and then I will see them once a month for follow ups - since we need a bit of time to let the treatment work and see results. When doing consultations for thyroid conditions or menstrual cycle irregularities - we want to wait a few weeks between each treatment to see if bloodwork changes or menstrual cycles regulate. If it is digestive concerns, we will usually do a follow up in a week or two because this takes a lot less time to see changes. And for fertility acupuncture - this can be weekly if needed. So it really depends!
