Join us for a day of giving back
This Thanksgiving, a portion of our sales will be donated to help support Indigenous seed sovereignty through Sovereign Seeds.
This Indigenous-led group is dedicated to strengthening Indigenous peoples’ relationships with their seeds, territories and teachings.
The ability to nurture, save and share cherished seeds plays an important role in Indigenous sustenance sovereignty, cultural vitality and community resilience. Land displacement and genocidal government policies have disrupted Indigenous peoples’ relationships with their seeds, territories and teachings. Still today, within the colonial borders of Canada, colonialism and environmental racism continue to hinder the intergenerational transmission of Indigenous sustenance systems.
This network is making a difference by engaging Indigenous voices on seeds and sustenance sovereignty across Ontario and Quebec in 2019-2020 to listen to and support their visions for seed sovereignty.
Sovereign Seeds Goals:
- Support Indigenous seed leaders in their leadership and nurture emerging seed learners as future Knowledge Holders.
- Improve Indigenous peoples' access to their seed varieties.
- Restore decolonial seed governance by centering Indigenous women’s and Indigenous 2SLGBTQQIAAP+ community members’ contributions, experiences, and decisions.
