This pride weekend, we will be donating a portion of our online + in-store sales to SOY Toronto
SOY (Support Our Youth) Toronto is an innovative community development program of Sherbourne Health. SOY works to support the health and well-being of all queer + trans spectrum youth 29 years old and under through our groups, programs + events and by providing one-on-one support. Their programs include:
Youth in Transition: This program supports youth who are in or leaving the care of a Children’s Aid Society with resources for housing, income, education, health care + counseling, legal services etc.
Groups + Drop-Ins: SOY runs many different groups for youth who identify in certain ways and others are for youth who share a specific interest. All SOY groups provide a snack or meal and TTC tokens for those who need them. Groups take place in a wheelchair accessible space and some groups have ASL interpretation.
Goal Planning Services: Goal-Planning Service (GPS) helps LGBTQ youth achieve their goals, support their strengths and connect them with helpful resources.
Mentorship + Peer Leadership: These programs are designed to empower queer + trans youth through: identifying life goals; building meaningful connections with experienced and affirming community members; and developing skills, experience and leadership to increase confidence and self-advocacy.
Internal Housing: Addressing LGBTQ youth homelessness in Toronto has been a core concern since SOY’s inception in 1998. Their staff creatively works on finding safer housing solutions to address the over-representation of LGBTQ youth in Toronto’s youth homelessness population.
